Reshaping the Edge - Banner (2).jpg

Brief in short

Reshaping the Edge competition is a call to action for architects, urbanists, designers, engineers, and students to reimagine the future of coastal living in Mauritius. Anchored in Bel Ombre Village—a site shaped by history and now marked by vulnerability—this competition forms part of the 2025 CEDTI Colloquium, Living on the Edge. With over 80% of SIDS populations living along fragile coastlines, participants are invited to design bold, adaptive futures that respond to climate threats like rising sea levels, ecosystem loss, and flooding.

Grounded in community and guided by nature, proposals should explore housing prototypes, water-sensitive strategies, circular design, vibrant public spaces, and inclusive governance models. Whether speculative or technical, entries must inspire new ways of living, rooted in resilience and imagination.

Eligibility

The competition is open to architects, urban planners, landscape architects, engineers, designers, and students in architecture, design and engineering. This single category brings together diverse profiles to foster innovative and engaged proposals that may range from speculative narratives to technically grounded or strategic responses. Participants are encouraged to address the site at multiple scales, from local interventions to territorial frameworks, provided the proposal demonstrates critical insight, coherence, and relevance.

Participation is individual only and for Mauritian Residents only. Registration is open to one person per entry above 18 years old, and only one proposal will be accepted per participant.
