Nou Lakot Pe Rekile: Ki Pou Reste?
The question is no longer whether our shores are retreating, but how we face it together.
Over the past three years (2022–2025), the National Study on Coastal Risks and Resilience (MaurisCot) brought together scientists, local institutions, and international partners to better understand coastal erosion and flooding in Mauritius and Rodrigues. The scientific work was led by BRGM in partnership with Météo‑France (Indian Ocean Regional Office), the University of Limoges (UMR 6042 Géolab), and the University of Mascareignes.
Following the publication of these findings, a major vulgarisation and dissemination campaign titled "Nou Lakot Pe Rekile: Ki Pou Reste?" is being carried out by CEDTI, with the support of AFD, Expertise France, and Business Mauritius. As part of this national campaign, public booklets have been made available in French, English, and Kreol, alongside a series of on-site workshops across Mauritius and Rodrigues.
Researchers—including Nathalie Bernardie‑Tahir (University of Limoges – Géolab) and Franck Desmazes (BRGM)—are present throughout this workshop series to share findings, answer questions, and engage directly with local communities.

About the study
This workshop is an extension of the MauRisCot project: "Operational study of coastal risks (coastal flooding and coastal erosion) on the islands of Mauritius (Mauritius and Rodrigues) in the context of climate change". The project was financed by AFD (Agence française de développement), coordinated by BRGM between 2022 and 2025, and carried out with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Météo‑France (Indian Ocean Regional Office), the University of Limoges (UMR 6042 Géolab), the University of Mascareignes (Mauritius), and the AFD Group's Adapt Action programme.
