NU LAKOT NU LAVWA
A pilot community engagement for the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) of Black River district across two beaches – Flic en Flac and Le Morne.

About the Event
Over two Saturdays – 30 May at Flic en Flac and 6 June 2026 at Le Morne – CEDTI co‑animated the first pilot edition of Nu Lakot Nu Lavwa, a community engagement initiative under the Nairobi Convention and the RECOS project, co‑financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French Fund for the Global Environment (FFEM).
At both coastal sites, CEDTI presented a mini‑exhibition titled Zistwar Lakot – a visual journey through historical and aerial photographs of the coastline, inviting observation, memory, and dialogue. This was followed by a talk session where the public exchanged directly with specialists.
The expert panel included :
-
Carina Gounden – Coastal protection (MRU 2024)
-
Nicolas Paturau – Senior architect, urban coastal development
-
Arshad Mamode Khan – Senior urbanist
-
Zyaad Boodoo – Environmental and sustainable development
The events were co‑organised by the Indian Ocean Commission (COI) in partnership with Dynamia and the Indian Ocean Islands Foundation (IOIF).
