Geography of Transitions

Introduction

In recent decades, the world has undergone major upheavals, foremost among them being the acceleration of globalization and climate change, disrupting economic, social, and environmental balances. The Indian Ocean region, in particular, is significantly affected by these transformations, as global flows such as maritime trade, industrial subcontracting, and tourism are now being questioned due to the increasingly tangible effects of rising sea levels. Comprising a significant number of small island states with contrasting levels of development and environmental contexts, this region faces growing vulnerability, necessitating a re-evaluation of models in the context of transition across various aspects (economic, social, ecological, etc.).

The "Geography of Transitions" research group aims to encourage and unite efforts related to transition, including experimentation with new modes of living, the emergence of new connections between people and their territory, the development of adaptation solutions to environmental changes, and the design of new models for territorial governance, among other aspects.
